The Renwick Gallery is located at Pennsylvania Avenue at 17th Street, NW Washington, DC.
When: July 20, 2012, February 3, 2013
40 Under 40 features 40 artists born since 1972 – the year that the contemporary craft and decorative arts program from the Smithsonian American Art Museum was established and located at the Renwick gallery. All of the art that will be displayed for this exhibition was created after September 11, 2001.
Olek is an avid crocheter and lover of Red Heart yarn. Known for covering anything and everything in crochet, she has been selected by the Smithsonian American Art Museum as one of the 40 under 40. Olek amazingly creates her crochet art in her head – no patterns, no sketching – she just visualizes the object flat in her head and goes from there! Watch this video to get more insight into how Olek creates her art.
I know I can’t wait to go see her exhibit and see what new objects Olek has covered in colorful crochet. If you’re in Washington, DC, be sure to plan a trip to the Renwick Gallery and see Olek’s art along with 39 other very talented artists.
