Congratulations to all of our Yarn of the Month winners! Below are a list of the names of the monthly winners. Red Heart wants to thank everyone for the wonderful comments, and remember to check back often for announcements about other opportunities to win big!
We have only a few short weeks to go before Gnora and Gnorbert will be showing off their new babies. They will be having a boy and a girl. They can’t make the announcement to the world without names, so we need boy and girl gnome names. Continue reading “The Adventures of Gnora & Gnorbert — Gname the Gnomes”
Today is Halloween and I’m sure we’ll see lots of gobblins and scary little creatures running through the neighborhood. I won’t have as much time to work on a project tonight, but I do have a little something set aside that I started on Monday. I haven’t made myself anything in awhile, so tonight I’m going to work on the Painted Wool Vest. Continue reading “Wednesday Night Stitching Challenge Season 4, Week 6”
One of the best things about being involved in the designs for Red Heart is getting to know the work of so many talented people. Paul DuBuc is a great example. He has taken our beloved Red Heart Super Saver and created some of the most awe-inspiring art pieces I’ve ever seen. He told me how he first became interested in God’s Eyes while attending concerts by the Grateful Dead and other rock groups back in the sixties, and noticing that they placed God’s Eyes on the stage.
Elegant, stylish, sophisticated … Chic! Continue reading “Yarn of the Month Giveaway for November”
Team Red Heart attended Stitches East a couple weeks ago and while there we had a number of requests to come visit various Knit and Crochet Guilds in 2013. Those that saw the new yarns we had were so excited, they couldn’t wait to get back and show their other members. These are guilds with over 100 members that attend; we aren’t counting those members that do not attend regularly. This is a great opportunity for these stitchers to see all the new yarns and colors we are presenting, play with them and see what creation is calling to them. Sometimes, a pattern is perfect, but the colors the designer used clash with your style. Don’t worry, you can still make that throw or sweater, just change the yarn colors! It’s easy to mix and match colors to suit your home or wardrobe once you have a little bit of color theory in your arsenal of crafty tools! Continue reading “Creative Colors in Yarn”
I am thrilled to be guest blogging for Red Heart! Since I just got back from Stitches East, I thought that would be the perfect topic to share with you. If you’ve never attended, you’re going to want to make plans for next year because it’s an event you don’t want to miss.
Back in April, Red Heart teamed up with Crochetville for the first time at Stitches South. It was a “learn-as-you-go” kind of thing since we had never done this before. We were so well received that we kept going and have since done 4 more shows and it just keeps getting better. “Team Red Heart” consists of Tammy Hildebrand, Amy Shelton (or Princess Amy as she likes to be called) and Kathleen Sams.
I decided to ask some of our booth guests what they thought of what we’ve done so far. I would have liked the opportunity to speak with everyone who visited but we were usually too busy which tells you something right there!
Two words I heard over and over were “updated” and “upgraded”. Our customers love the variety, the quality and the reasonable prices. Visiting our booth is so much more than just buying some yarn. It is an experience! We have actually been tagged as “the fun booth”. Wow! We love what we do and we’re just so excited that all our fiber friends are loving it too.
I’d like to share a few snippets from some of our guests that I got to chat with.
Kim Meredith and her daughter Lee Ozelius have been using Red Heart for years and love it! Kim especially enjoys using Team Spirit in Red / Black; her high school colors. They came by multiple times.
Jane Rimmer is excited about all the new yarns and enjoys the friendly staff.
Deb Seda loves all the vibrant colors and the new fibers.
Judi Weingarden states, and I quote “I am exceptionally impressed with the upgrade in quantity and quality”. Judy came back every day to show us all her great creativity. She was covered from head-to-toe in fibery goodness. Sadly, my picture of her didn’t turn out.
Lucille Miller stopped by Thursday during preview. When she stopped by again she told us she loved the booth so much that she wrote it down to come back and also told all her friends they had to stop by our booth. How cool is that?
I also asked each person if there was anything they didn’t like. The only answer I got was they want to see more! So we’re busy planning more surprises for future shows.
Many of your favorite designs are on display in our booth. Not only do you get to see them in person, but you can touch them and even try them on!
We have books for sale in the booth and many of your favorite designers are on hand to personally sign them. Here is Margaret Hubert wearing the “Margaret” shawl designed by Renee’ Rodgers in her honor.
One of my personal favorites about being in the booth is when someone comes to show us what they have done with their Red Heart yarn. They are excited to share their projects and tell us stories about the history whether they made it for a friend or it was yarn they purchased at a previous show, whatever! We love to share in their enthusiasm.
Did I mention how much Red Heart likes to give away free things? YES, I did say free! Everyone received a great little tote bag to use for their selections. Isn’t it so much easier to shop when you have your hands free? Not to mention it makes a fantastic project bag. We also gave out tee shirts, Christmas knitting needles and crochet hooks, as well as Crochet Today magazines. There were a number of lucky attendees that won door prizes filled with goodies! Barbara Levy, Susan Shmookler and Emily Jagos are just a few of the lucky people that won a Red Heart canvas bag filled with the Lace Edge Vest pattern, all the Boutique Changes yarn needed to make it, the knitting needles and even some yarn needles to weave in the ends!
The show was over way too quickly and it was time to come home. I was a little worried that I would have to leave my clothes at the hotel so I had room for Red Heart’s new Celebration yarn. But with a little determination I got everything packed up.

I’m back home from Stitches East and ready for a quiet night of stitching. These events are so much fun, you get to meet many wonderful people who have the same passion for yarn as we do. The best part is when people would stop by the booth to show you what they were working on or even to ask for advice. I could go on and on, but for now I’m going to think about my Wednesday Night project. We’ll talk about Stitches East later! Continue reading “Wednesday Night Stitching Challenge Season 4, Week 4”
