National Hugging Day

I was looking at the calendar recently and noticed that just about every day of the week is named after something or someone. Some examples of this are National Chocolate Covered Cherry Day, National Spouses Day and National Bubble Wrap Appreciation Day. I think some of them are silly, but one day that stands out to me is National Hugging Day. In 1986 Kevin Zaborney declared January 21st as National Hugging Day. He noticed that people seemed a little down after the Holidays and thought a hug might lift spirits. He did not think the idea would take off, but it did and in a big way. It is not only recognized in the United States, but in many other countries. Everyone needs a hug every once-in-a-while, right? His only advise is that you should ask permission before hugging a complete stranger.

Donna’s Dozen Thanksgiving Decorations

It’s hard to believe that it is time to start thinking about the holidays again, but it is true. We bring you Christmas in July, but what about Thanksgiving? Personally I like to decorate for every holiday so I started searching for patterns for Fall and Thanksgiving to decorate my home. I found turkeys, pilgrims, table runners and a lot of beautiful leaves. They all contain the warm tones that we associate with this time of year. Most of the projects are easy so you should have plenty of time to dress up your décor if you start now.

Donna’s Dozen Baby Patterns

I know I have said it before, but I will say it again…I love making things for other people. Babies are my absolute favorite subjects to make hand-made gifts for. They tend to appreciate my hard work, they do not judge me if I make a small mistake and the unconditional love when they look into my eyes is priceless. It may be a little too early for them to say thank you, but I know in their own sweet way they love it! I guess I could take the easy way out and make the same pattern over and over, but I like a challenge so I attempt something new with each gift. To assist you in making a variety of gifts for your special bundles of joy, I have put together a dozen of my favorite baby creations from Red Heart.

Donna’s Dozen Back to School in Style

It’s hard to believe, but it is that time of year again. Time to send those precious little ones back to school. Along with that comes shopping for new school clothes and supplies. Most are accessories so you have plenty of time to get done before school starts. I have also added some great projects for sports fans.

Donna’s Dozen Hats & Scarves for Charity

We have all heard the saying “it’s better to give than to receive” right? Well for me it truly is better to give. I would much rather sit down and make something for someone else than make something for myself. It feels even better when I know that it is needed and appreciated. Donating knit and crochet projects to charity groups is not only rewarding, but much needed. Hat and scarves are some of our most popular patterns and I can only guess that a good portion of these projects are donated to a favorite charity. I have done some of the leg work for you by searching to find a dozen each hat and scarf projects. That’s right, it’s Donna’s Dozen DOUBLED!

Donna’s Dozen Free Throw Madness

Let me start out by saying I love sports, but a month of it is a little too much. In March our family room TV is on basketball, nothing else. I decided a long time ago to make this my time to retreat to another room and create something special for myself or for a gift. Since I have a full month with no interruptions I usually would tackle a throw before the weather turns warm.

Try adding fringe next time. It will completely change the look of a boring scarf or shawl. Fringe can be added to scarves, ponchos, shawls, cowls and even afghans/throws.
