When I think of Easter it takes me back to a happy place when I was a child. I remember being so excited to shop for a new Easter dress and brand new white shoes, because it was okay to wear white again. I remember baskets, bunnies, egg hunts, flowers and warmer temperatures. It always seemed like everyone was just a little happier and it still makes me smile just thinking about this time of year.
The color grey was not picked as the “color of the year”, but I think it has surpassed all other colors in the past two years. For instance, it has a book deal, movie deal and most importantly plenty of free patterns on RedHeart.com. I wanted to bring a few together so you could enjoy the beauty of this color and the wide variety of yarns that feature this alluring color. There is something in this list for almost any adult. Whether you need an accessory, garment or something for your home, we have it here. We should embrace the color because it is not going anywhere anytime soon. Enjoy!

An accessory can be the most important element to an outfit. It can turn something drab into dynamic, plain into perfect or oh-no into oh-yeah! A scarf is a perfect example of this. Check out the dozen scarves featured below. I know you will find something to dress up your drab day.

If you knit or crochet then you have partial balls/skeins of yarn in your home that I call scrap yarn. Personally, I like to use up this yarn so I can buy some more. I have come up with a dozen patterns that you can complete with small amounts of yarn.
It is hard to believe that 2014 will soon come to an end. We would like to take this time to thank you all for choosing Red Heart® as your source for free patterns. There are so many wonderful patterns to choose from that I am sure you have not had time to see them all. Did you know we have over 2,500 free patterns? The following designs were some of the most viewed in 2014. Maybe there is one in this list that you missed.
Today I wanted to introduce you to a whole new way to look at Boutique Sashay. You have probably seen and most likely made the ruffle scarves, but wait until you see what else you can do with this versatile yarn. I hope you enjoy the twelve different ways to use Sashay.
Once high school and college are over you wonder if you will ever make lasting friends like you had when you were young. I grew up in Louisiana and moved to North Carolina as an adult so I was not sure it would happen. It did! I have five fabulous ladies that are my “grown up” friends. We all lived in the same neighborhood, five of us in the same cul-de-sac. Our kids grew up together and we remained friends even after most of us moved away. I think we are on 14 years now.
I wish that I could tell you that I am up on all the current styles and I know what everyone is wearing, but I can’t. I have a secret weapon, a college age daughter who lets me know what’s hot and trendy. She also feels free to let me know what I should and should not wear.
I can tell you that she will only accessorize with cowls, no scarf for her. Over the summer she brought me four scarves that someone had given her and asked me to sew the ends together and make them cowls. I understand it because they are stylish, warm, sensible and they won’t fall off.
In honor of the colder temperatures I wanted to bring you a variety of cowls. At RedHeart.com we have so many different styles to choose from. We have short, long, wide, twisted, dressed up or dressed down and even finger crocheted cowls. Please enjoy my dozen picks, but check out our website for other free knit and crochet patterns and so much more.
We at Red Heart are so proud to know that there are groups formed to come together and support each other through tough projects, offer encouragement, share their knowledge and even their yarn stashes. One of those groups is the Red Heart Lovers Group on Ravelry. They have been busy putting together an exciting Knit and Crochet Along for the month of October. If you are a beginner or just need some knit and crochet friends you should check out this group. See below for more information:
