Real Men Do Knit!

What do you get when you put yards and yards of yarn and tons of knitting needles, spinning wheels and crochet hooks in a room with a bunch of men? The Second Annual Southeast Men’s Knitting Retreat….that what you get! This past November 8th, men from as far away as Denver Colorado and Ocala Florida and all points between gathered at Ashbury Hills Retreat in Cleveland, South Carolina to celebrate their common passion for knitting and fiber. With experience ranging from six months to sixty years, a casual, if slightly structured weekend, was filled with tons of time for knitting around the fire pit…battling the yellow jackets who were swarming for the remnants of last weekend’s apple butter festival…exchanging patterns, tips and techniques, showing off their latest finished projects, and discussing what would be made next. Wednesday Night Stitching Challenge Season 4, Week 11

Here we are at our last week of sharing our projects for the Wednesday Night Stitching Challenge.  I still have a few quick items to finish up before Christmas. Tonight I’m going to go through my projects, package and wrap them and I’m also, working on little crochet bags.  I make these every year to hang on the tree.  Each one has the name of one of the grandkids and they have to find their little bag to see what’s in it.  It’s perfect if you just want to give gift cards.  The great thing with this pattern is that I can use any yarn.  All you need do is change the hook size appropriate for the yarn you are using.  These are great for jewelry, change, keys, little cowboys or army men (you know I have a house full of boys) and magnets.  This cute little bag had soooo many uses.  I even made a couple of small ones for myself using Heart & Sole.I keep those in my purse … one for change and the other houses all those *store cards*, such as discounts for gas, groceries, drug stores, etc.  Continue reading “Wednesday Night Stitching Challenge Season 4, Week 11”

Yarn of the Month Giveaway for December

Have you ever thought about making something with yarn without having to knit or crochet?  Sometimes it’s fun to use your hands when creating projects with yarn, especially when it’s a bulky, loopy yarn.  No knitting needles or crochet hooks required.  It’s a great way to get yarn into the hands of kids. Just let your fingers do the walking and you’ll have a scarf in less than 5 minutes. Decorate a picture frame or lamp shade in just minutes. Our December Yarn of The Month is Red Heart Boutique Swerve. Continue reading “Yarn of the Month Giveaway for December”
