We Love Doilies!

So you think doilies are for little old ladies? Well doilies have been around since before that little old lady you know, and there are good reasons that they are still with us today. Doilies add joy to our surroundings. In our stark modern homes a surface with a modern doily adds a bit of beauty. Looking at a doily and how all its exquisite little stitches form a pleasing pattern gives us joy (especially if we enjoy crocheting). Staring at a doily is like staring at a mandala: it is mesmerizing. And when we are looking to protect our wood furniture from stains and scratches, our doilies most certainly serve a very useful purpose.

Plan Your Vacation Patterns to Knit & Crochet

It’s almost summer in the Northern Hemisphere, which means that families are about to start taking vacations! Whether you’re going for a week away to a remote area, or just a day trip to the nearest city, we’ve got you covered with a variety of crochet and knit projects.

We chose projects that are easier to pick up and put down as you travel, with few color changes and with pieces that are easy to carry with you. Also, we’ve put down some estimates for times these projects take. These are just estimates and the actual time will vary based on your experience, how distracted you are, and so on.

Bring color into your home!

I’d like to tell you a little about how we came to do our look book, Create with Color. We know that everyone has their own sense of style and would like their home to reflect that style. Since you are knitters and crocheters, we wanted to illustrate how the same throw or home décor items can work in different room surroundings. Of course, you have the added opportunity to change the colors to whatever you like. We used Super Saver and With Love so that there would be plenty of color choices.

Why you should give Susan Bates Silvalume hooks a try…

I come from a long generation of fiber artists: my great-grandmother crocheted, my grandmother knit, and both my mom and my aunt crochet as well. I remember being 5 years old and seeing these gorgeous, brightly colored afghans all around my great-grandmother’s house. She kept them on the sofa, on chairs, and at least one in each bedroom. Everyone in my family has used Susan Bates hooks, so it just seemed natural that I would gravitate towards them too.
