noun ar·ti·san \ˈär-tə-zən\: a person who makes things by using skill with the hands.
This is a pure definition for the recent “I Am An Artisan Challenge” hosted by our sister company, FreeSpirit Fabrics. As a “yarnie,” you know the name Kaffe Fassett from his multi-color knitwear designs and beautiful yarns bearing his brand. Kaffe’s love of textiles also graces colorful 100% cotton fabrics perfect for patchwork or any sewing project.

The North Carolina Project:
Red Heart and the Office of Raleigh Arts have teamed up to host Olek, our friend and New York-based artist, as she begins the North Carolina leg of her 50-state public art project, Love Across the USA. Olek, who is widely known for “yarn-bombing” sites, will work with participants to create a portrait of an important North Carolina woman. The completed work will be approximately 40’ wide and over 20’ high, and will debut on the eastern facade of the Raleigh Convention Center in October 2017.
Crochet artist Olek has released the first two parts of her new #LoveAcrosstheUSA community mural project: a mural of Harriet Tubman in Auburn, NY and a mural of Susan B. Anthony in Rochester, NY. The murals were made by combining hundreds of 2′ x 2′ crocheted squares made by dozens of community volunteers.
This I Love Yarn Day, Stitch It Forward and teach someone else to crochet or knit!
I Love Yarn Day is an annual event to celebrate yarn. In 2016, it will be held on Saturday, October 15th. In celebration of the 6th anniversary of the event, the Craft Yarn Council (CYC) is encouraging everyone to teach a friend, neighbor, or family member how to crochet, knit, weave, or otherwise have fun with yarn. Plus, there’s a scavenger hunt you can join to enter for a chance to win prizes!
Most people remember their first stitching lesson and who taught them how to turn skeins or balls of yarn into great scarves, hats, sweaters, afghans, and more. Pass along your love of stitching to someone you love! Use the hashtags #iloveyarnday and #stitchitforward to share what you’re doing, and follow our social media to join in!
