Cro-Shayley Makes a Newborn Cowboy Hat and Boots

I have yet another friend who is pregnant and is due in April, however, this friend is having a little boy. She is going with a ""rustic"" themed nursery so I decided to make her a cowboy hat and boots so maybe she could use these for some newborn photos.

After making the St. Patrick's Day Chapeau in my last blog, I decided to make the hat again but even smaller this time to fit a newborn. I tweeked the pattern a little and like last time, I only used 1 strand of yarn. Also, I used a G6/4mm crochet hook. Here is the revised pattern I used (Corrections have been made in red):

Crown
Ch 4; join with slip st in first ch to form ring.
Round 1: Ch 1, 8 sc in ring.
Round 2: Work 2 sc in each st around ”16 sc.
Round 3: [Sc in next sts, 2 sc in next st] 8 times ”24 sc.
Round 4: [Sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st] 8 times ”32 sc.
Round 5: [Sc in next 3 sts, 2 sc in next st] 8 times ”40 sc.
Round 6: [Sc in next 4 sts, 2 sc in next st] 8 times ”48 sc.
Round 7: [Sc in next 5 sts, 2 sc in next st] 8 times ”56 sc.
Round 8: [Sc in next 13 sts, 2 sc in next st] 4 times ”60 sc
Round 9: Sc in each st around.
Round 10-16: Repeat Round 9 seven times.
Round 17: [Sc in next 7 sts, sc2tog, sc in next 6 sts, sc2tog] 3 times, sc in next 7 sts, sc2tog ”53 sc.

Brim
Round 24: Sc in each st around.
Round 25: Sc in next 12 sts, 2 sc in next, sc in next 13 st, 2 sc in next, [Sc in next 12 sts, 2 sc in next] 2 times ”57 sc.
Round 26: Sc in next 8 sts, 2 sc in next st, sc in next 8 sts, 2 sc in next st, sc in next 10 sts, 2 sc in next st, sc in next 8 sts, 2 sc in next st, sc in next 8 sts, 2 sc in next st, sc in next 9 sts, 2 sc in next st ”63 sc
Round 27: Repeat Round 9.
Round 28: [Dc in next 6 sts, 2 dc in next st] 9 times ”72 sc

For the cowboy boots, I used Red Heart's WR1759 Baby Boots pattern but left off the tie. I switched colors at Round 3. I repeated Round 8 twice and switched back to the color I started with after that for Rounds 10 and 11.

I crocheted a star applique to sew onto the side of the boots.

5 Pointed Star Steps:
Ch 2, 10 sc in 2nd ch from hook; join with a sl st in first sc.
* Ch 3, sl st in 2nd ch from hook, hdc in next ch. skip next sc on Rnd 1, sl st in next sc; rep from * around.
Finish off and sew onto the side of the boot.
