Cro-Shayley makes a Stadium Seat Cover

As I was reading through Bobbie Matela’s, Back to School with Team Spirit blog post, I added a few of the free patterns to My Favorites. The following day I was perusing through the fun stuff at Goodwill and I came across a $2 seat cushion and remembered the Crochet Stadium Seat Cover free pattern I saved so I purchased it. My husband and I became good friends with some Ole Miss fans so I thought it would be nice to make them a seat cover to take to some football games. Sorry Mississippi State and LSU fans…don’t hate me! ;)

The patterns in the Back to School blog post all use Red Heart Team Spirit yarn. I didn’t have any in my yarn stash so I used my “Ole Trusty” Red Heart Super Saver instead. To begin, I made the front side using Super Saver Hot Red and Blue…

…and I made the back side in Super Saver Soft White.

Letters A to ZBefore moving on with the seat cover pattern, I knew I wanted to have the letters “O, L, E, M, I, S, S” sewn on the striped side of the seat cover. I used Red Heart’s A to Z in Crochet free pattern to make these. Below are the pattern directions for these 6 letters. (I refer to this pattern all the time to personalize some projects.)

O
Ch 17, slip st in first ch to join.
Round 1: Sc in each ch around, slip st in first sc.

Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.

L
Ch 12.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in next 2 ch, skip next ch, sc in last 7 ch.
Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.

E
Ch 8.
Row 1: Slip st in 2nd ch from hook, [ch 3, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next ch, sc in next 3 ch of ch-8] twice, ch 3, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next ch, slip st in side of last sc along ch-8.
Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.

M
Ch 21.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in next 9 ch, ch 5, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 3 ch, sc in remaining 10 ch of ch-21.
Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.
Shape into a “M” while sewing in place.

I
Ch 8.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across – 7 sc.
Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.

S
Ch 17.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across – 16 sc.
Shape into a “S” while sewing in place.

Then I went ahead and sewed the letters onto the striped side of the seat cover.

Then onto making the outside edging and inside lining for both sides.

Then I took both seat covers and held the wrong sides together. Working through both thicknesses, I sc around the edges (instead of sewing them together like the pattern says). I wanted to add just a little more white border to make the white letters stand out. I inserted my $2 Goodwill seat cushion before closing up the last side and top. Then overlapped the handles and did the same thing to close them.

Weave in the ends and there you have a customized Stadium Seat Cover. :)
