Come on into the Boutique–the Red Heart Boutique that is–where you’ll find lots of beautiful yarns and designs, including new “Swanky”.
I wish that I could tell you that I am up on all the current styles and I know what everyone is wearing, but I can’t. I have a secret weapon, a college age daughter who lets me know what’s hot and trendy. She also feels free to let me know what I should and should not wear.
I can tell you that she will only accessorize with cowls, no scarf for her. Over the summer she brought me four scarves that someone had given her and asked me to sew the ends together and make them cowls. I understand it because they are stylish, warm, sensible and they won’t fall off.
In honor of the colder temperatures I wanted to bring you a variety of cowls. At RedHeart.com we have so many different styles to choose from. We have short, long, wide, twisted, dressed up or dressed down and even finger crocheted cowls. Please enjoy my dozen picks, but check out our website for other free knit and crochet patterns and so much more.
Come on and get Sassy–you know you want to!

I’ve noticed that as I get older my year seems to get shorter. I feel like I just had a birthday and it is almost time for another one. Wasn’t Christmas a few months ago??
Don’t you love when the weather starts getting colder and you know it’s time to pull out the chunky yarns because you know you’re going to need a warm accessory soon?
My friend, Lizzie, turned 7 a few weeks ago. She had planned a dragon-themed birthday party and was in need of a super cute dragon hat. I came to her rescue and made Red Heart’s Dragon Hat just in time for her birthday party.
Lizzie wanted the hat and tail to be black, the scales to be hot pink, and the spots to be purple. Luckily, I had all 3 colors in my stash! I used Super Saver Black and Shocking Pink and Shimmer Purple (which added a little girly sparkle to the hat).
Soft and lustrous acrylic yarn with added ply of a reflective fiber so it’s great to stitch with and aids in nighttime visibility!
The V-stitch seems to be taking the crochet world by storm right now. It is a classic crochet stitch that is very easy to work. If you can crochet chains and double crochet stitches, then you can create scarves, blankets, and other items using this stitch. Perhaps the reason it’s so trendy right now is because it’s simple to crochet but has a textured, detailed look that appears overly complex to others. This guide will show you how to work a classic double crochet V-stitch, as well as several variations.
