July Throw of the Month

Tip

The throw this month is made in Super Saver, but the sample is done in Soft. One of the special stitches for this throw is the sc2tog-over-4, or single crochet 2 together over 4 stitches. It’s easier than it sounds! This decrease creates a sharp angle to help you make the ripples in this throw.

The sample starts with a couple of rows of single crochet. To start the stitch, insert your hook into the next stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop. You’ll have two loops on your hook.

July TOTM 1

Next, skip the next two stitches. Insert your hook into the next stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop. You’ll have three loops on your hook, and in the middle you’ll have two skipped stitches. The loops on the hook are spread out in this picture so you can clearly see the two skipped stitches between the loop on the left and the loop in the middle.

July TOTM 2

Yarn over, and draw through all 3 loops on hook. You will have one loop on your hook, and will have completed the decrease.

July TOTM 3

This picture shows the sample after the rest of the row is completed. You can see how it bends in the middle where the decrease is.

I love the all throws that have been offered here. I really hope I can win one soon… I’m going in this month for thyroid surgery and need something to do while I recover :) Good luck to all who enter!

Cute granny square based throw. This would be a great gift for someone in the military.

Our Extension Service Office has a knitting/crochet group that meets weekly to make items to give to people in need in Mississippi. Because there is no budget for this group, the members have to supply their own yarn and we periodically ask the public for donations. This would be a great afghan to give to someone in the nursing home, patients who have to receive dialysis treatments (which usually last about 4 hours), women and children in a shelter for domestic abused victims, or a family who may have had some kind of tragedy. Thank you for being a company that encourages giving to others.
