Operation We’ve Got You Covered

by guest blogger Jan Knapp

In the United States, a uniform hat is sometimes referred to officially as a cover, as in: “Soldier, remove your cover!” or “You’re not in uniform without your cover.”

The Ladies Auxiliary, Military Order of the Purple Heart is asking crafters to join us in Operation We’ve Got You Covered, a patriotic program that provides support and comfort to hospitalized and homebound Veterans.

Our hospitalized and homebound veterans will appreciate your handcrafted cap covers, lap covers, bed covers, amputee stump covers, or any patriotic hand crafted items. Our friends at Red Heart have several Patriotic patterns for you to choose from. There are over 300 locations of VA facilities nationwide. Your donation will help many veterans receive much needed care items that can only come from giving Hearts like yours. Thank you for helping to make a difference in the lives of our veterans.

Our senior crafters have about a dozen lap covers which we would like to donate. I have not been able to reach your web site. In need of contact info.

Hi Ruth, Operation We’ve Got You Covered has been having some issues with their website. We sent you an email with contact information for them.

Looking for DK 8 ply yarn. Is it a thick yarn? please email me at [email redacted]

    • redheart Post author

Hi Roz, Thanks for your question! This is not a yarn category that we use at RedHeart; we use the yarn standards from the Craft Yarn Council. Yarn weights are described this weight in other countries, such as Australia and in Europe. It is not a thick yarn, but we can’t give any more specifics.

Do you have an address where I can donate crochet item in El Paso Texas

    • redheart Post author

Hi Maria, Thank you for your question! Unfortunately we do not have information for individual cities on where you might donate items. If you are looking to donate to a particular organization, we suggest contacting the organization directly. If you are interested in general donations, you should be able to search for donation programs in your city. Good luck!

I am currently making Red Heart Pattern LW4739 Easter Parade Hat and get into difficulty at Rounds 13 and 14 – it just does not work out the way it says and I have to adjust in order for the pattern to work out. HAS ANYONE ELSE MADE THIS HAT and found the same problem – or is there an update on this pattern? Would appreciate your comments.

Dear Lyn, We’re sorry to hear the pattern has a problem! Please contact Customer Service at http://www.redheart.com/ContactUs or (800) 648-1479 for pattern assistance and to report errors so they can be corrected.
