Team Color Projects for the Big Game

Are you excited for the upcoming 2016 Super Bowl 50 game? We are! So we designed these patterns for you to make to cheer on your favorite team. We have a Panthers-inspired knit hat and a Broncos-inspired crochet cowl. We used Super Saver for the hat and Team Spirit for the cowl. Feel free to switch the yarns and the projects to make your favorite project for the team you support.

Make Pompom

With A, B, and C held together, follow our tutorial on using the Susan Bates Easy Wrap Pom-Pom Maker or follow these directions: Wrap yarn around 3½” [9 cm] piece of heavy cardboard (the more wraps, the fuller the pompom). Gently remove wraps from cardboard. Cut a 12” (30.5 cm) length of yarn and tie it tightly around center of wraps. Do not cut the ends of this center tie. Cut ends of wraps. Fluff and trim pompom to even strands. Use ends of center tie to tie pompoms top of hat.

ABBREVIATIONS: K = knit; mm = millimeter; P = purl; st(s) = stitch(es); K2tog = knit 2 sts  together; P2tog = purl 2 sts together; ( ) = work directions in parentheses as indicated.

Is the hat knitted in the round? It does not state “circular needles and says” knit across” both of which would indicate the hat should be knit flat. However if that were true contuining k2-p2 every row would not create ribs.

Hi, Thank you for your question and we apologize for the confusion. Yes, the hat is knit flat. Having an even number of stitches, you will get the ribbing by doing k2-p2 on every row. The last two stitches on the row are purls, so when you turn the hat to go back across the row the other way you will knit them.
